Group Conscious Meetings: first Monday of each month at 7pm

what is the group conscious meeting for?

What is a Group Conscious ?

It’s essentially a meeting where the members of an AA group collectively discuss and make decisions about the affairs of their specific group.

Here is a brief breakdown:

Purpose: To arrive at an “informed group conscience” – a shared, collective view or decision on issues affecting the group, such as choosing group officers, managing finances, setting meeting times or formats, and ensuring the group follows the AA Traditions.

Process: Decisions are typically reached through discussion and often a vote, with the goal being “substantial unanimity”—meaning all members, even those who initially disagree, feel heard and are willing to support the final decision. This emphasizes placing principles before personalities.

In short, it’s how an AA group governs itself.

Steering Committee Meetings: last Monday of each month at 7pm

What is the Steering Committee?

The Steering Committee in Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) groups is composed of trusted servants (members in service positions) who manage the day-to-day operations and administrative functions of the group

This role, guided by the AA Traditions (especially Tradition Nine), is to:

Handle business matters (finances, literature, facilities, etc.).

Coordinate service activities and committees.

Prepare recommendations for the entire group to vote on, reflecting the group’s conscience.

Essentially, they “steer” the business affairs to ensure the group can continue to carry its primary message of recovery.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

Service work in AA is done voluntarily, anonymously (where possible), and without expectation of reward or recognition. The focus is on helping others and maintaining the integrity of the fellowship. The emphasis is on humility and following the AA twelve traditions, ensuring the focus is on the program and not the individual service worker.
